Ingress Charts
Section 1: Part 1
In which we begin with an examination of six important events in British history, and relate their astrology to the chart of a Coronation.
There is, as was mentioned earlier, general agreement about the meanings of the various Houses in an Ingress chart. There is a list of House meanings here, and a list of meanings of the planets here.
What is really going on, though?
We ought not to assume, however, that these relationships will "work" or tell the whole story. We don't know what we're going to find out. I mean, it might NOT be planets or signs or aspects that give the information in Ingress charts. I say this because, ridiculous as it might seem, the chart for the coronation of William the Conqueror in 1066 might still be valid.
I was told many years ago that William had himself crowned King of England deliberately at noon in order to give the country a strong chart - the Sun conjunct the Midheaven in Capricorn. If that was indeed the case, then it worked pretty well, given that a tiny island nation once ruled an Empire on which the sun never set.
This is the chart for the Coronation - 25 December 1066; 12 noon; London. It includes Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, even though I might have legitimately left them out of the picture.

Notice the following:
The 10th House is the king or queen, and the government. The 8 degree Capricorn MC is ruled by Saturn at 16 Virgo, retrograde in the 6th House.
The Ascendant is the population; 21 Aries is ruled by Mars at 8 Aquarius; and since 21 degrees is the Sagittarius decanate, the Ascendant is also ruled by Jupiter at 7 Virgo, retrograde in the 6th House.
Some important events in British history:
A while ago, I chose a few random events in British history that seemed to be important or key in their own way. I looked up the dates, then examined the transits to the 1066 chart on those dates, wondering if I would find close aspects that would show this chart being activated - or still in action - centuries after its beginning.
I thought for a couple of minutes, then made a short list of important events:
The death of Diana
First is the death of Lady Diana. If you remember the reaction of the population at the time - the outpouring of grief - then this was an important event.

At the time of Diana's accident - I have chosen 12.30 am since it is a few minutes after the recorded time that Diana left her hotel - we find the Sun and Mercury at 7 and 8 degrees of Virgo, respectively. In the 1066 chart, Jupiter, co-ruler of the Ascendant is at 7 Virgo; and Mars, the ruler of the Ascendant is aspected at 8 Aquarius. The transitting planets also aspect the MC.
I know this is the Sun and Mercury and they move quickly around the chart. They will both go over 7 Virgo once a year, and so it may not seem that significant. However, it does not happen often - the Sun and Mercury were that close at the same time to 7 Virgo only twice between 1950 and 2005.
What is important?
It may be that as we look at different charts, we'll find that certain degrees or particular areas of the zodiac are important for different countries. Here, we have aspects from transitting planets to both rulers of the 1066 Ascendant.
I like the fact that the aspects are very close - less than one degree from being exact. I would have been delighted if the minutes had been exact. The transitting Sun was 7 Virgo 34; the 1066 Jupiter was 7 Virgo 57, so the Sun would not be exactly conjunct the Jupiter until mid-morning. Diana's death was, however, announced around 5 am in Paris. Should we therefore conclude that it is the degree itself that is important, and that aspects do not have to be exact?
England winning the World Cup in 1966.
This chart is set for 3pm when the game started. Germany scored first, after 12 minutes; England equalized 6 minutes later, and went ahead 2 - 1 in the 78th minute. Germany equalized in the 89th minute. England scored again in extra time in the 101st minute, and again in the last minute of play to win 4 - 2.

Notice the following:
1. Transitting Saturn, at 29 Pisces, is in the same degree as the 1066 Moon. That is one contact.
2. Transitting Pluto at 16 Virgo 49 was conjunct the 1066 Saturn at 16 Virgo 50, retrograde.
3. As the game began, the Moon was at 16 Capricorn 38, close to an exact trine to the 1066 Saturn. Germany scored first. England equalized at 3.18. The moon went exactly trine Saturn at 3.23 pm. England went on to win.
A possible conclusion:
We may not need to have planets in exact aspect; they may only have to be in the same number, so to speak.
Declaration of War with Germany in 1939:
This is the chart for 3 September 1939 for 11 am, after which time England was at war with Germany. Chamberlain made the public announcement on the radio at 11.15 am.

The 7th is the House of open enemies, and the 1066 chart has Libra, ruled by Venus, on this cusp. At 11 am, transitting Venus was at 8 Virgo 23, having just passed the 1066 Jupiter at 7 Virgo, and was making an inconjunct aspect to the 1066 Mars at 8 Aquarius 27.
Another possible conclusion:
The 1066 Jupiter and Mars positions, and the MC, are again affected. Is this because those two planets in the 1066 chart, not just rule the Ascendant, but are also in an almost exact aspect (the 150 degree inconjunct) with each other?
Should we pay close attention when planets ruling an angle are in close aspect in a natal chart?
The Abdication of Edward VIII:
King Edward VIII gave up the throne so that he could marry Mrs Simpson, who was unsuitable because she was, among other things, divorced.

The 1066 Midheaven (the House of the King) has 8 Capricorn on the cusp, and is therefore ruled by Saturn. Edward signed his letter of abdication on 10 December 1936.
On that day, transitting Saturn was at 16 Pisces opposite the 1066 Saturn at 16 Virgo. The planet of restriction and discipline is opposing the significator of the King.
Edward announced his abdication on December 11th in a radio broadcast, probably in the evening of that day. We may already know that Uranus rules radio waves, and that Pluto rules the masses, so we would not be surprised that on the day of the broadcast, transitting Pluto at 28 Cancer 24 was inconjunct the 1066 Uranus's position at 28 Sagittarius 26.
The 1832 Reform Bill
This Act of Parliament was very important because it gave the vote to a much bigger segment of the population. The Act was passed in the Commons on September 22, 1831, and eventually (can't find the date) the Lords passed it.

When the Bill passed the Commons, Saturn was in the 8th degree of Virgo - conjunct the 1066 Jupiter, and trine the 1066 MC. Saturn was also on that date inconjunct Mars, who happens to be the god of war, and so we might not be surprised that a period of unrest followed the passing of the Act, and various threats were uttered causing the Lords to give in and pass the bill.
The beheading of King Charles 1st.
The trial and execution of Charles 1st preceeded the abolition of the monarchy in Britain, at least for a few years while Oliver Cromwell ruled. I read that Charles was beheaded after 2pm, in London, and this is the chart.

We find Pluto at 8 Gemini and Saturn at 9 Gemini, both retrograde, and aspecting the 1066 Mars at 8 Aquarius, the MC at 8 Capricorn, and the Sun at 9 Capricorn. The Moon at the time of the execution just happens to be at that 7 degrees of Virgo position that we have seen before.
These are a few points to wonder about when it comes to mundane astrology. I realize that other dates are important, but I used the first few that came to mind and was pleased to see some activity with transiting planets making close aspects to the 1066 chart positions. Now we just have to figure out what it all means.
Next we look at the Ingress chart for 2007 for London.
In the meantime, you might become familiar with the normal meanings assigned to the planets and houses in a mundane chart (links are in paragraph 4 above) so we are on the same page, so to speak, in the next post. Or if you have an interest in British history, you might like to check the transits to the 1066 chart for a few dates and see what - if anything obvious - was going on. I would be happy to hear of your discoveries or disapppointments.
